India is a large producer of whisky although its definitions and regulations governing its production differ from those used in the USA and the EU. Much of the spirit termed "whisky" is produced [at least in part] from molasses-based neutral spirits and classified as an "Indian-Made Foreign Liquor" [IMFL]. India does produce true grain whisky and makes a number of well-regarded single malts. Notable producers include Amrut Distilleries and Paul John.
