Brandy is a spirit produced by distilling grape wine or a fermented mash of fruit.
Fruit brandies are usually clear and may be aged or unaged. Common base materials are cherries, plums, and pears.
Brandies made from grapes [i.e. cognac and armagnac], pommace [grape skins left over after winemaking], and apples are usually aged in wood.
